THE Fiji Volunteer Service is creating a window of opportunity for Fijians, both young and old, who have tapped into this scheme to find their niche and for some, to discover a new lease of life.
Public Service Commission permanent secretary, Parmesh Chand, today applauded the dedication and effort that the 10 volunteers and one retiree put in to equip themselves with the necessary skill that has seen them being appointed to substantive positions within Government.
These volunteers were placed in different Ministries such as the Ministry of Justice and Education with most of them now being absorbed through project posts as well as some gaining employment in the private sector.
And the permanent secretary pointed out that this was done without any extra cost to PSC as the staff and facilities within the commission were utilised to render the FVS.
“This did not cost us anything extra as all this was being done within the resources of PSC with its own staff and facilities. No extra staff had been hired,” Mr Chand said.
For 28-year-old Vakaoca Kedrayate, an Australian National University graduate, the FVS was a godsend as she was finding it difficult to find employment despite her qualifications.
“I think these days almost everyone has a degree so it is not like before but I am full of praises for the PSC for providing us this window of opportunity,” she said.
Ms Kedrayate, along with the others, was today presented with their certificates of completion after doing close to six months attachment.
