Twenty-three young Fijians from Vatukorosia Youth Club are the new recipients of the Youth Farm Initiative grant programme.
Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports, Alipate Nagata, while officiating at the grant handover ceremony at Vatukorosia Village in Naitasiri yesterday (14/07/22), said they should be applauded because they have chosen a new and time-honoured way to earn an income in farming.
“I am told that farming is the major source of income for the youth club, therefore today's handover of farm kits valued at approximately four thousand dollars ($4,000) will be a boost for them," Assistant Minister Nagata said.
He said the grant, which is provided in the form of farming implements, is not a handout that will be forgotten.
“We will ensure that all recipients are accountable for the materials provided to them and they achieve the set targets.”
He said the Ministry of Youth and Sports conducts post-disbursement monitoring and verification exercises, which will monitor the progress made in respective youth groups.
