The ground-breaking ceremony of the Land Transport Authority headquarters in Vatunibale, Labasa today signifies Government’s continued commitment to decentralized, people-centric services, infrastructure development, and improved access to transport services for the people of Vanua Levu.
Witnessed by staff and management of the Land Transport Authority, the total cost of the project is estimated to be $7.2 million which will feature a fully-Fledged Office that will serve as a regional hub for transport services in Vanua Levu.
The new Land Transport Authority office will employ 40 staff and offer a full suite of services, including a weighbridge to support transport logistics and ensure roadworthiness and safety.
Officiating at the event, Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Hon. Filipe Tuisawau said “currently, the Land Transport Authority processes an average of 18,228 transactions per month for the entire Northern Division, with 5,456 of those transactions taking place right here in Vatunibale. This new facility will not only provide improved capacity to meet current demand but also accommodate projected growth in population, vehicle ownership, and commercial activities.”
This project is also in line with the Coalition Government’s national agenda of promoting inclusive development by strengthening public institutions outside of Viti Levu and to ensure that all Fijians have equal access to quality government services.
