The Head of Government Shipping Services (GSS) and Navy Commander John Fox will lead a team to Korea and Japan on Monday to inspect vessels that government is intending to buy.
Commander Fox says the purchase of a vessel is in line with Government’s commitment towards improving shipping services around the country.
“This will make work easier for the GSS and those in the outer islands. As well, if we purchase a tug boat it will be able pull a barge which is carting equipments, machines and other heavy loads.”
The team will spend two weeks in Korea and Japan before presenting their recommendations to Government for the purchase of a vessel.
Government has allocated $3 million in this year’s budget for the purchase of a vessel.
