“We are sincerely grateful and congratulate you for flying the Fiji Police Force’s flag at the Oceania Championship,” said Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua.

The Commissioner of Police was congratulating national powerlifting representative and gold medallist Mozima Irram, who is a Police Constable.

This was during a special ceremony to honour Irram, who won gold medal in the 56kg category at the Oceania Powerlifting Championship that was held in Apia on December 10 and 11.

The 27-year-old forensic officer started competing in the sport six years ago.

She represented Fiji at the 2003 Pacific Games.

This is her first gold medal at an international competition.

WPC Irram said she was proud to represent the Fiji Police Force as a national representative and she encouraged other police officers to take up sports as a means to healthier living.

“I am thankful to the Fiji Police Force, my senior officers and my coaches for encouraging and mentoring me,” PC Irram said.

“I encourage all officers to take up some form of sports because it not only helps you physically, but mentally and spiritually as well.”

PC Irram said she was looking forward to represent Fiji again in the 2011 Pacific Games.
