Good government workshop for FCS

Good governance in the Fiji Corrections Services means being just and fair to inmates and co-workers says FCS Commissioner, Lieutenant Colonel Ifereimi Vasu.

This was the Commissioner’s message during his opening address to 40 participants at the Good Governance Workshop & Workplace reforms at the Government Training Centre today.

The aim of the workshop is in line with the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.

“The aim of the workshop is ensuring sustainable democracy and good and just governance in the FCS, ,” Lt Colonel Vasu said.  

“This will ensure effective, enlightened and accountable leadership thus developing a leadership culture within the FCS that is commendable, enhancing public sector efficiency, performance effectiveness and service delivery within the FCS to make FCS a knowledge-based government department that is equipped for the future

“The performance should be benchmarked as correction professionals.”

The Commissioner urged participants to be open-minded at the workshop.

“Considering the recommended topic that will be covered, may I encourage you to have an open mind and participate fully in the deliberation,” Lt Colonel Vasu said.

The four major decrees namely Crimes Decree, Domestic Violence Decree, HIV/AIDS Decree and Sentencing and Penalties Decree will be part of the three-day workshop discussions.

“These are part of our everyday work and I encourage you all to get familiar and understand it,” he said.

Lt Colonel Vasu added that the good governance practice would root-out bad habits, bad practice that open doors to nepotism and corrupt practice.

The workshop will conclude this Friday.
