About 25 government officials based in the Northern Division attended the Bua provincial council meeting in Nabouwalu.
Divisional Planning Officer Northern, Mr Alipate Bolalevu confirmed that most of the government officials attended the two-day meeting.
He was responding to an allegation by the media that senior civil servants did not turn up in numbers during the provincial council meeting in Nabouwalu.
“Most department heads were present at the Bua provincial council meeting but because of the late issuance of the council meeting papers yesterday morning, heads of department were still reading the District Council (Bose ni Tikina) resolutions, this caused delays in responding to the resolutions,” Mr Bolalevu said.
“The Bua provincial office should make an effort to invite senior civil servants to attend the provincial council meeting.
“The office did not send invitation letters to the Commissioner Northern office nor to the heads of department.
“It was through the initiative of the Commissioner Northern office, through emails received from the provincial administrator Bua that heads of department’s were invited via emails.”
He said only two departments were not present during the first day of the meeting.
The Divisional Planning Officer Northern, Mr Bolalevu said the Land Transport Authority was not told of the meeting until the second day.
He said most government officials, who attended the meeting in Nabouwalu were disappointed with a report by the media.
