Government supports highway cleanup
Government supports highway cleanup
07/06/2010
A cleanup along the Queens Highway involving 54 communities, organisations and Government was held Saturday 5th June 2010. The event involved both a cleanup and tree planting.
The cleanup was a national initiative of the Young Women’s Christian Association and facilitated by the Young Professionals Club.

Club president Eta Kedrayate said they had targeted youths for the cleanup campaign but other organisations had pitched in. Communities along the Queens Highway were also mobilised.
Ms Kedrayate said the reason for the cleanup and tree planting was to recognise that this year was the International Year of Biodiversity, and to commemorate Government’s one-million tree initiative.
Nadi and Lautoka youths were also part of the cleanup.
The Poverty Eradication Unit under the Prime Minister’s Office sponsored one of two buses, which carried a banner depicting an anti-poverty message and strategies. The bus was used to transport participants to the cleanup and tree planting event along the Queens Highway. Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office also actively participated in the one-day activity.
