Government’s initiative to provide free transport assistance to school children will continue this year.
The Minister of Education, Mr Filipe Bole says school children will continue to benefit this year from the government’s initiative of free transport to schools.
“Last year, a total of 94761 students were recipients of $12m given by government to 9 education districts for transport assistance. This money was paid out to bus companies, carrier and mini bus owners and even boat owners for those students who travel to schools on sea,” the minister said.
“This year, another $12million is budgeted for the same exercise and parents are asked to see that their children go to school.
“However, the assistance is only provided to students whose parents combined annual income is below $15,000. Not all students travelling to schools by bus are given bus fare coupons.”
