“We must diligently carry out our responsibilities in ensuring that we develop and build Caumatalevu up so the future generation would have all they need to succeed.”
This was the message from His Excellency the President, Turaga na Tui Macuata\, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere while opening the Macuata Provincial Council meeting at Nabubu Village, in Namuka today (21.11.23).
His Excellency urged the traditional leaders, and district representatives not to rely heavily on the Government for development, but to utilise the resources they have in abundance, like the land and sea, to raise funds for development.
President Katonivere added that while Government was doing its part, the responsibility was on the resource owners to strive towards developing the Province.
“It is high time that we utilise the abundant resources we have, to generate income so we can improve the financial situation in our local communities,” His Excellency the President said.
“We have the largest traditional fishing ground here in Macuata, tourism opportunities and even land, yet we are not utilising it well.
“A strategic development plan must be set out for the next five to 10 years, and when launched, it should not be changed so we can work towards a common goal.”
President Katonivere urged the traditional leaders to continue from where their predecessors have left off in building and developing Caumatalevu.
The Macuata Provincial Council Meeting will conclude tomorrow (22.11.23).
