HEAD OF STATE OFFICIATES AT SPECIAL INVESTITURE CEREMONY

07/10/2024

President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere officiated at the Special Investiture ceremony held at the State House today.

The ceremony honored recipients across three categories; the Order of Fiji (in both General and Military Divisions), the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, and the Civil Service Medal.

In his address to the awardees, President Katonivere stated that today’s ceremony is a recognition of their dedication.

“You have demonstrated selflessness in the midst of challenges. Your impact in the communities you serve, your professional spaces, and to the nation, is acknowledged.”

“Awards are impactful tools. They drive us to achieve higher and effect changes in ourselves, and in the spheres that we operate. Your awards must motivate you to positively influence others to serve meaningfully and with conviction.”
President Katonivere highlighted that the conferment of the national awards is a recognition of the culture of appreciation.

“I urge you to cultivate that across your spheres. I take this opportunity to acknowledge the awardees who are unable to attend today’s ceremony due to work commitments or physical distance.

We recognise your commitment.”
In line with today’s ceremony, the Fiji Government in 1995 instituted the Order of Fiji to recognise achievements or meritorious service by citizens of Fiji and occasionally as honorary appointments by non-citizens. The Order has awards for the General Division and for the Disciplined Services.

The civil service medal recognises outstanding merit and may be awarded to any member of the Fiji Civil Service for distinguished devotion to duty and outstanding achievement.
