HIGH COURT RULES IT HAS JURISDICTION TO HEAR “SICK SHEET SCAM” CASE

The Republic of Fiji’s High Court today ruled that it has jurisdiction under the Administration of Justice Decree to hear the judicial review applications filed by 64 Fijian workers whose employment was terminated for involvement in the “Sick Sheet Scam.”

The High Court raised the issue of jurisdiction to hear this case.

 

The ruling of the Fijian judiciary demonstrates that all Government workers have the right to have their grievances addressed by an impartial and independent judiciary.

The High Court has raised issues with respect to the application filed by the workers, which will be addressed by the Court on 8 May 2012.
