Among the many progressive protections that the Fijian Constitution enshrines for all Fijians –– including our common and equal citizenry –– is the “right to a clean and healthy environment”.
For this year’s
#OurConstitution, the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, is calling on every Fijian to tell us what the constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment means for them.
Fijians of all ages, including students, can submit short videos –– which can be anywhere from few seconds to up to 3 minutes in length –– making a pledge telling us how they plan to help uphold every Fijian’s constitutional right to a clean and healthy environment.
What you share is up to you entirely –– you can tell us about nature-based solutions to economic development, the importance of climate action or cleaning up communities, or the protection of our reefs and ocean ecosystems, to name a few. The world needs to know why environmental rights are important, so that more countries will echo Fiji’s constitutional environmental protections!
We have some wonderful prizes for our winners, including an Eco Retreat Package worth up to $5,000, an Ocean Adventure Package worth up to $3,000, and a River Safari Package worth up to $2,000. All prices can be exchanged for their full cash value.
