The Ministry of Health will receive One Hundred and Sixty (160) bicycles tomorrow, Thursday November 19 to help its HIV Community Health Workers in their work.
The donation is been given for the promotion of community based health projects in Fiji by Toshima-city, Tokyo Japan and Japan Bicycle Promotion Institute, Tokyo Metropolitan Public Corporation for Road Improvement and Management.
The bicycles will be used for HIV awareness projects by community health workers in the community.
The bicycles will improve community mobilization of HIV services. This will be an important challenge on the frontier for the sustain prevention of HIV.
The Bicycle Handing over Ceremony will be held on Thursday 19th November, 2009 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm at Ministry of Health Head Office.
Ms Maho Shimizu, a JICA Volunteer with the Ministry of Health in Labasa and a citizen of Toshima City, had requested for the support to Toshima-city .
She is currently serving as HIV/AIDS Control Officer with the Northern Health Services, Ministry of Health.
The bicycles have been shipped into Fiji by KYOWA Shipping Ltd, a Japanese shipping company, with CDP, a local courier company, sponsoring the distribution of the bicycles all over Fiji free of charge.
