The Coalition Government is committed to unlocking the economic potential of Fijian women and girls in all their diversity, ensuring their full participation and leadership in the economy.
As part of this commitment, Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection Hon. Tabuya officiated the closing ceremony and issued certificates for the Certified Training for Women Economic Empowerment workshop at Nakorovou village, Dreketi Rewa last week (13/9/24).
As part of the workshop, 60 women from nine tikinas and the Rewa Disabled Association participated and received certificates from the Pacific Women's Economic Empowerment Program (PAC WEEP). It was aimed at improving women's sewing, weaving, and jewelry making skills.
Accompanying the Honorable Minister was 2024 Hibiscus contestant Ms. Ciara Lee who has maternal links to Rewa. Ms. Lee shared her experience as a young entrepreneur growing with a single mother who taught her and made her to the young woman she is today.
The workshop is part of the program titled Improving Livelihood Opportunities and is part of the Rewa Strategic Development Plan 2024-2027. The program aims to address social concerns in the villages and provide groundwork for generating economic activities to address poverty.
In collaboration with key stakeholders, the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection is also developing the Women’s Economic Empowerment National Action Plan (WEE NAP) that amplifies women’s voices and ensuring their influence in economic decisions, both at home and in public.
