HON. QEREQERETABUA MEETS KOREA’S VICE FOREIGN MINISTER: FIJI-KOREA REALTIONS REAFFIRMED
 
The Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Lenora Qereqeretabua, met the Republic of Korea’s Vice Foreign Minister Ms Kim Jina at the margins of the 6th Republic of Korea (ROK)–Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM), held in Seoul from 8–10 December 2025.
 
The meeting reaffirmed Fiji and Korea’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation with emphasis on deepening engagements in economic cooperation, trade and investment, and improved connectivity.
 
In her remarks, Hon. Qereqeretabua acknowledged Korea for the successful coordination of 6th ROK-Pacific Islands Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and extended appreciation to the Korean Government and their people for the continued support provided to Fiji – particularly through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and other development focused initiatives.
 
She highlighted that these initiatives have made tangible impacts on the lives of the communities in Fiji and strengthened our national resilience, and also welcomed potential opportunities to deepen cooperation in climate resilience, sustainable development, green disaster -resilient infrastructure and innovative technology.
 
Hon. Qereqeretabua reiterated that Korea is a trusted friend and development partner for Fiji and the broader Pacific region.
 
In her remarks, Vice Minister Kim highlighted that Fiji is at the center of Korea’s diplomacy toward Pacific Island countries, noting that the two nations have advanced a friendly and cooperative relationship for more than half a century since establishing diplomatic ties in 1971. She also expressed Korea’s intention to expand cooperation across various areas, including climate change, oceans and fisheries, and development cooperation.
