HOUSING AUTHORITY TO OFFER DISCOUNTS TO FLOOD VICTIMS

04/05/2012

In light of the recent adverse weather conditions around the country, the Housing Authority of Fiji is extending its flood assistance program by offering a nation wide discount to its customers ground rent accounts.

Effective immediately, Housing Authority leased land customers who make payment till 31st May, 2012 will receive a discount of 8 percent.

Thereafter ground rent customers will receive a 6 percent discount until June 30th and a 4 percent discount will be in place for the month of July, 2012.

Housing Authority chief executive officer Alipate Naiorosui said, “the discounted ground rent is particularly targetted at assisting homeowners who were affected by the recent floods  however we are extending it nation wide to cover all our customers in these hard times”.

Initially the Housing Authority had offered a “one off” ground rent discount in 2011 with the aim of assisting customers who were facing financial difficulties in meeting their ground rent payments however considering the extent of damage that the recent floods have caused, the discount has been included in its flood assistance program.

“I would like to encourage our Housing Authority lease customers to take advantage of this ground rent discount being offered”, Naiorosui further added.

The Housing Authority also advises customers that failure to settle the outstanding ground rent will result in the homeowners name being referred to the Credit Data Bureau, legal action through the Small Claims Tribunal or lease cancellation by re-entry.

Ground rent payments can be done at any Housing Authority customer relations centre located in Lautoka, Namaka, Suva, Valelevu and Labasa from Monday through Saturday and through Post Fiji branches nation wide or through Digicel Mobile Wallet and Vodafone’s free MAiSA service.
