Have a heart - Education ministry reminds bus companies and parents

03/11/2009

The Education Ministry last week issued a media release on bus companies and parents, who have taken advantage of the free bus fare initiative by Government.

This week, the Ministry would like to remind all those who have been taking advantage of these bus fare initiative to have a heart and be thankful that at least they are benefitting from this assistance.

The Ministry would like to remind those who try to abuse this assistance that students attending schools in the islands and some parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu have to cross difficult terrains, rivers or walk along the coast to get to their school. Think of how the savings from this exercise could benefit these students in some form or another.

It is time that we think outside the box and mull over the struggles, the toil and sweat, of these students. Government is trying to reach out to all these students and when people become greedy and think of themselves, the efforts of government become slowed down.

In this regard, if we all take an honest stand and accept what we are entitled to, then money saved could be used to assist other students who travel by other means to school.

Finally, the Ministry hopes that we will all make a stand for what is fair and right and live a life of compassion for those who are more disadvantaged than us. This is the exemplary and virtuous life we want for Fiji’s most treasured and valuable resource- our students.
