Have passion to develop - Councillors reminded

11/03/2010

People in the North have been urged by Program Manager Northern Development Waisale Tuidama, to be more passionate towards development.

Mr Tuidama told Councilors of Seaqaqa/Bua that their job was to encourage their assigned communities to venture into commercial scale agricultural and commercial projects to improve their livelihoods.

"We need to educate our people to treat farming as a business.we need farmers who are educated," Mr Tuidama said.

While the potential is great in the North which has thousands of acres of rich land suitable for rice cultivation, dalo and yaqona farming, livestock and poultry production, Tuidama said farmers should also be well trained for the job.

“In this regard Councillors should work  with Government officials and play an important role in the economic, social and cultural development of their different communities.”

The Northern community has been encouraged to fend for themselves in order to survive and not to expect handouts all the time and must learn but to develop others means of sustenance during  difficult times.
