Four high performing Fijian students, who were among their peers from 13 developing countries, graduated with flying colours following financial assistance of a Korean construction conglomerate.

The students, including PhD scholars Joji Wata and Patrick Mark Singh and undergraduates Sunia Loga and Ratu Jone Savou, successfully completed their studies with financial backings from Booyoung Group.

Mr Wata, a PhD student at Korea Maritime University, thanked the Booyoung Group for the financial support and the Fiji Embassy in Korea for their effort in securing the scholarship arrangement with Booyoung Group for the students.

The Fijians were among 98 other students from countries in Asia, Africa and the Pacific who were granted USD$4000 each from the company to complete their second semester.

Booyoung Group chairman Lee Joong-keun believes investments in education is a form of corporate social responsibility of his company and a worthwhile cause for his organization.

He encouraged the scholarship awardees to devote themselves to achieve the goals they have set, and believe in themselves as they are future world leaders.

The ceremony was held at the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul and was attended by Diplomats from recipient countries.

Fiji was represented at the ceremony by Charge d’ Affaires Mr Joreti Dakuwaqa.

The ceremony was even more meaningful for Fiji as Sunia Loga, the undergraduate student, who studies Classical Vocal at Kosin University delivered the words of appreciation in Korean language on behalf of the scholarship recipients.
