INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER PAYS A COURTESY CALL TO MINISTER TABUYA

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Lynda Tabuya received the Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Shri Palaniswamy Subramanyan Karthigeyan, at the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Headquarters in Suva this afternoon.

Minister Tabuya thanked the Indian Government for its continued support and the ongoing friendship between Fiji and India. She acknowledged the facilitation of training for rural Fijian women as solar engineers at the Barefoot College in India and the sewing machines donated by the Indian Government.

“These initiatives and programs were aimed at empowering women and girls in our local communities. She expressed her appreciation for the generous support, noting the importance of empowering women, girls and vulnerable persons in Fiji”.

“The availability of women's economic empowerment programmes and technical support for the identified women’s groups are steps in the right direction for the Ministry and to the people of Fiji,” she stated.

Minister Tabuya acknowledged the High Commissioner for sharing knowledge and best practices between the two Governments with the collective goals of improving the lives of the most vulnerable.

Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Shri Palaniswamy Subramanyan Karthigeyan briefed the Minister on the programs and developing and strengthening the skills for women provided by the Government of India and stated that the Government of India is privileged to contribute to the nation building efforts of Fiji.
