12/11/2014

An Inter-Agency Committee formed in Labasa in the Northern Division will be working on better addressing children’s rights and their welfare.

The agency formed by government stakeholders such as the Social Welfare Department, the Education Department, Ministry of Health, i-Taukei Affairs and the Fiji Police Force will ensure that that child welfare is placed as priority.

Chairman of the committee deputy police commander assistant superintendent of Police Fulori Rainibogi said it was important that all the government agency's ensure that parents put child welfare first.

"We are going through the child welfare decrees and we want to address this with the families and communities that we visit and we must take action first," ASP Rainibogi said.

ASP Rainibogi said most communities do not understand the child welfare decree and the constitution and this must be addressed.

"Rural areas need more awareness," she added.
