INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY 2022

The Institute of Language and Culture, Ministry of iTaukei Affairs will be hosting the International Mother Language Day 2022 with the theme "Using Technology for Multilingual Learning: Challenge and Opportunities".

The theme recognises that languages and multilingualism can advance inclusion and sustainable development goals. The Chief Guest will be the Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Selai Adimaitoga.

It is a half-day event that will be shared digitally via social media platforms.

The day's event will include:
• a launch of digital data on culture with Intangible Cultural Heritage Asia-Pacific (ICHCAP) in Seoul Korea; ICHCAP is an Asia-Partner under the auspices of UNESCO that facilitates information sharing and networking;
• a traditional kava ceremony by the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs and the Dolce Sounds Dulali;
• a talanoa discussion on the status of the Vosa Vakaviti in comparison to their languages on the global scale.

The talanoa approach will be hosted by the Ministry's Na iTovo show guest. It will ensure inclusivity and maximum participation with those present and those connected virtually and vigorously campaign and promotes the finer nuances of the iTaukei language and dialects.
