27 October 2016, Israel: The President of Israel His Excellency Reuven Rivlin conveyed his personal and the Government of Israel's sincere gratitude towards Fiji's peacekeepers.
In a telephone conversation with the President His Excellency Major-General (Ret'd) Jioji Konrote, His Excellency Rivlin commended the Fijian soldiers for their professionalism and for their neutrality in contributing to peace in the Middle East.
His Excellency Rivlin asked His Excellency Konrote to convey Israel's gratitude and best wishes to all of Fiji's soldiers.
The telephone conversation between the two Heads of States was initiated by the President of Israel after an initial courtesy call on him by His Excellency Konrote had to be cancelled due to a delayed flight from Amman, Jordan on Tuesday 25 October.
The delayed flight was caused by massive fogging in Amman. Efforts to reschedule the courtesy call fell through due to the tight schedules of both Presidents.
However, His Excellency Konrote was honoured to be able to speak with His Excellency Rivlin by phone. He also reassured President Rivlin of Fiji's commitment to serve humanity through peacekeeping duties in countries that require such services.
His Excellency Konrote is on an official visit to Fiji's peacekeeping troops in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.
He earlier met separately with the Prime Minister of Lebanon, Hon. Tammam Salam and the President of Iraq His Excellency Fuad Masum who both not only commended Fiji's soldiers but also assured Fiji that their respective nations will do all they can to ensure the safety of our soldiers.
