ITAUKEI LAND CULTURE AND TRADITION PROTECTED BY CONSTITUTION

The protection of ITaukei land, tradition and culture through Fiji’s new constitution was highlighted recently to Lau villagers.

The Strategic Framework for Change and Coordinating Office (SFCCO) senior official, Sitiveni Raturala reminded the villagers of Mabula in Cicia on this new feature of the Fiji constitution.

“For your information, iTaukei land, tradition and culture are fully protected in the preamble of the new Constitution,” Mr Raturala said.

He also told the people of Mabula on the announcement of the 7-member Electoral Commission.

“This is an independent body and they will manage the election in September,” he said.

The 2 member team from the SFCCO also distributed copies of the Constitution to villages in Cicia Island.

Mr Raturala said SFCCO monitors the work of all Government ministries and department.

“We make sure they do their work properly for the sake of you the general public. Civil servants are there to serve not to be served,” Raturala said.

“Fiji is looking forward to one of the best and most transparent election ever please make sure you are registered,” Mr Raturala said.

A team from the election office is also part of the current tour of the Lau group.
