The recent increase in tariffs by the Fiji Electricity Authority is purely based on need says Chief Executive Office, Hasmukh Patel.
During a presentation at the Fiji Institute of Accounts Congress meeting, Patel said FEA is currently doing a study to establish the level of tariff increase to ensure that FEA is financially stable.
“ FEA is now engaging in various power generation projects like the Vuda Biomass which when completed could supply 17 Mega Watts of electricity.
" FEA is also encouraging private companies to go into Bio mass power generation and sell power to the Authority.
“ There is potential Bio-mass capabilities in the Forest Industries in Vanua Levu especially in Savusavu and Labasa,"he said.
