Indonesia offers education help

As archipelagoes with similar geographical conditions, Indonesia and Fiji share similar obstacles in their efforts to provide education for their people.

However, since establishing Open University in 1984, Indonesia has improved the situation to reach those who are living in remote areas.

For that reason, on August 3-4, 2010, The Indonesian Embassy states that Fiji will send two representatives for a comparative study in Indonesia, to learn how the educational system in Indonesia.

In regards to the plan, in his meeting with the Fiji Islands Minister for Education, Filipe Bole, the Indonesian Ambassador for the Fiji Islands, Aidil Chandra Salim said that it is an honor for Indonesia to share its experience with Fiji in order to improve education in the country.

Minister Bole shared that Fiji’s distance learning system applied in 2009 still needs further development.

Ambassador Aidil hoped that the Indonesian learning system can also be developed in other areas is the Pacific region if it can be accepted and applied in Fiji.

At the meeting,  Ambassador Aidil also ceremoniously handed over the supporting documents (ticket, visa, profile of the Republic of Indonesia, and brief explanation about Open University / UT) to the participants of the comparative study.
