Twenty five enthusiastic students have enrolled into the Fiji National University for the Certificate in Media and Journalism course this year.

Course coordinator, Mr Elia Vesikula said the institution was excited and pleased by the number of interested students this year.

“With the media decree, we thought it might cause anxiety to the public but you see students are still very interested in the industry. They have come out to enroll in the Certificate in Media and Journalism course,”Mr Vesikula said.

Mr Vesikula said the majority of these students have completed Form Seven while others come from the media industry and even alternative media like church organisations.

“It’s also interesting to see that some students have no experience at all but are enrolling out of interest,” he said

Mr Vesikula said working in the media industry was of interest to young people nowdays because of the attrations of working in the radio station, the television station or for the newspaper company.

While interviewing them, some showed genuine commitment and passion for the media industry and see it as a career.
