Justice Ministry amends identification process

The Ministry of Justice, in accordance with government policies and a directive issued by the Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has today ceased the practice of persons of Indian ethnicity to provide their father’s name in all documents, forms, instruments, lodgment slips pertaining to the Justice Ministry.

Government today announced the ceasing of this practice after the Attorney General and Minster for Justice Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum removed the requirement for only persons of Indian ethnicity to provide their fathers names.

Those documents, forms, instruments or lodgment slips that require those of Indian ethnicity to include their fathers names will cease the practice when pertaining to the
Justice Ministry or the following registries:
·         -Registrar of Titles
·         -Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages,
·         -Official Receiver; and
·         -Registrar of Companies

In order to ensure proper identification of persons executing documents to be lodged in these registries, members of the public will be required to produce any of the following documents to the various registries:
-Certified true copy of tax identification number (TIN) letter
-Certified true copy of passport photo page
-Certified true copy of FNPF card
-Certified true copy of driver’s license or
-Certified true copy of birth certificate

Solicitor General Mr Christopher Pryde said this requirement to produce proper identification will apply to all persons regardless of their ethnicity.

He said that any document, form or instrument which had already been signed, lodged or executed prior to Monday, August 1, 2011 will be accepted and processed by these registries.
