KADAVU TEACHERS AWARDED

Teachers serving in Kadavu recently had their annual awards at Vineyard Restaurant to honour their commitment and hard work throughout the 2013 academic year.

The awards night included all the primary teachers in Kadavu in recognition for their commitment to the development of education on the island.

Chief guest and divisional education officer Eastern, Pita Cavakilagi emphasized to the teachers governments commitment to provide free education to the children of this nation.

“The government through all possible avenues has made education more affordable and accessible. You are the agents to ensure that the children you teach gain as much as they can with this new government initiative,” said Mr Cavakilagi.

“It has been a tough year but I wish to express my appreciation on your accomplishments as a team. The function tonight is testament to the solidarity among the teachers and the education officer in the Kadavu district. This is the first for any education district and I applaud your concerted effort.”

The divisional education officer Eastern also emphasized on proper planning for next year.

“You could resource your classrooms and schools better now if you plan well. Planning must be done by all teachers now. Consult what each classroom needs and include in the main plan. There is adequate funds to cater for most of your school needs. As we are in the 21st century, we need to have the 21st century tools as well. This is vital to boost the effective delivery of instructions to children,” added the Divisional Education Officer.

There were twelve awards given and the recipients were as follows:

SCHOOL AWARDS
• Best Participating School – Namalata Central School.
• Cleanest School – Nabukelevu – I – Ra Primary School.
• Most Improved School – Natusara Primary School.
• Best FTA Cluster – Ono Branch.
• Most Consistent in Punctuality – Yale District School.
• Best Overall – Ravitaki District School.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
• Best Female Teacher – Mrs. Emily Tabua
• Best Coach – Mr. Nemani Tamanisau.
• Best Head Teacher – Mr. Anare Fifita
• Best Male Teacher – Mr Bici
• Best Personality of the Year – Mr Verebasaga.

The education officer Kadavu, Keni Kauitukutuku also thanked all the teachers and stakeholders of the education fraternity for their contribution in the development of education on the island of Kadavu.
