Statement from the Ministry of Education
The school holidays are best times for children to enjoy themselves. Some will hang out with friends and for the older ones in the secondary schools, parents need to keep them occupied with house chores to relieve their boredom.
The Minister of Education, Mr Filipe Bole advised parents to ensure chores that are given are enjoyable to perform and children feel gratified for accomplishing them.
For students who attend extra-classes, they must be encouraged to continue. Before they depart for classes, their bus-fares should be provided, together with lunches if they need to stay in school until lunch time. Those who have mobiles, parents are advised to ensure their credits are topped up.
A little hug and a kiss before they leave home will be in their thoughts throughout the day.
During dinner time all they have done in the day should be discussed and commended. Those who need improvement must be encouraged to show them their contribution is much appreciated.
Parents are also advised to view and discuss children’s work in extra-classes. This is to remind them they are not alone in what they are pursuing.
