28/04/2011

Statement from the Ministry of Education

Over the years, few secondary schools try to end the school term with social nights of dancing, especially after the Coca Cola Games. This year the Minister of Education is reminding principals and teachers to keep these school bashes clean.

“Few secondary schools are known to have their school breaks coincide with the Coca Cola Games. This is often celebrated during the  end of school term bash.” Mr Bole said.

“While these social nights are acceptable, we need to ensure students enjoy themselves in a sociable manner. Male students will be tempted to sneak in alcohol or even get drunk somewhere before the organised social evening. Principals , teachers and even parents are requested to join them as chaperones. We need to keep these gathering clean.”

“Security should be well observed according to the OHS regulations for children’s safety. Teachers too are asked to remain sober throughout the evening.”

The Ministry will not tolerate teachers found intoxicated with alcohol amongst  students in a school event as mentioned.

“If tempted please don’t,” the minister said.
