LAUNCHING OF THE DIGITAL DISPLAY PARKING METRES IN SAVUSAVU

09/08/2023

Savusavu Town commuters now have access to Digital Display Parking Metres, making it a first in the North, which was launched by the Minister for Housing and Local Government Hon. Maciu Nalumisa today. (09.08.23).

This is also the first time that the township has introduced parking metres since its inception, with the initiation of the project in 2020.

Minister Nalumisa assured residents that the initiative will facilitate accessibility, ensuring customers' convenience while helping businesses flourish.

"The status quo of vehicles lining up in front of shops is no longer tenable, and this will undoubtedly boost commercial prospects," Minister Nalumisa said.

He added that strengthening the financial foundations of the 13 municipalities was imperative.

"This endeavor, initiated by the Savusavu Town Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government in 2020, was an answer to the keen demand of our residents, businesses and ratepayers," Minister Nalumisa explained.

"Acknowledging this need, the Council procured 10 parking meters through a joint effort with other Municipal Councils, facilitated by a $150,000 bank loan.

"This partnership underscores our commitment to enhancing revenue generation for the greater good of our municipalities."

He said that with nine parking metres on the main street, and one in the Foreshore Carpark, they are not just managing Traffic but also providing easier access to the town's business, which is essential in their vitality.

"The 10 metres are expected to accommodate around 45 vehicles daily, translating to an estimated annual income of $100,000 for the Savusavu Town Council," Minister Nalumisa said.
