The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints today announced their willingness to provide continuous technical and financial assistance to Fiji’s major hospitals and the Ministry of Health.

While speaking at the handing over of eight Infusion Pumps at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital today, former Welfare Manager of the LDS church in Fiji, Peter Lee said funds are available for further assistance.

“We have funds available and we encourage CWM management and Ministry of Health to utilise it for further maintenance and assistance in the hospital.

“ The church is grateful for its partnership with the Ministry of Health and especially CWM.

“Not only in the donations of such equipments but also in ensuring presentable health facilities.

“I would like to engage in further consultations with the hospital management so we can assist in the further maintenance work in the hospital,” Mr Lee said.

The LDS church had earlier assisted in the maintenance work carried out with the hospital’s kitchen and dining hall, which they said needed further works.

Part of their project in CWM is the painting of doctor’s cubicles in the West wing of CWM.

Mr Lee told the Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr Salanieta Saketa that funds are still available from their St Giles project after maintenance and procurement of some equipment.

“We will complete these projects soon and we are open for further proposals and projects in the future.

“There are also funds available and humanitarian training programs, which we encourage CWM management to propose for 2011,” he said.

The LDS entourage together with Dr Saketa and Medical Superintendent CWM Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete then toured the hospital’s kitchen and dining hall for likely future projects.

Talks are already underway for volunteers to carry out a major clean up in CWM’s kitchen facility.
