LEADERSHIP TRAINING FOR SUVA SECONDARY STUDENTS

10/08/2012

Student leaders from within the Suva District today attended the Impact Student Leadership Conference organized by Australia’s Premier Student Leadership Training Organisation – Impact Leadership.

“ Leaders set examples and such programmes ensure that our secondary student leaders perform exceptionally  for the advancement of their schools,”commented the Minister for Education, Ambassador Filipe Bole.

“ Initiatives like these ensure that our children are thoroughly equipped to produce the change and propel the nation towards peace and progress,”  Ambassador Bole said.

The conference aimed at developing leadership skills(capabilities and competencies) among young people so that they can have a positive influence on those around them. The program was developed to prepare student leaders in practical ways for the role of a leader at their school.

The Impact Leadership Organisation is an independent and non profit organisation that does not promote any particular religious or political views but rather presents accepted leadership values that are transcendent of religion, race and culture.

Student leaders were equipped with alternatives to discover and use methods to handle conflict, discovering and using styles of leadership, how to conduct student led events and public speaking skills.

The conference is a timely boost for the student leaders as they embark on the final half of the academic year. It will surely create the urgency to apply the knowledge gained in improving the discipline and academic achievement of their respective schools.

The conference continues tomorrow for primary student leaders at the Novotel conference room.
