LOCAL GOVERNMENT MINISTER IN THE NORTH

13/11/2014

The Honorable Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Praveen Kumar has urged staff at his Northern office to work hard and be dedicated to the ministry.

The minister told employees from Savusavu/Labasa Town Councils and the Department of Environment, Town and Country planning that they need to work together to build their towns in the Northern Division.

"I have visited the projects, met the people and I can see that Labasa and Savusavu is growing, it is growing in developments and in population," he said.

"The Town and Country Planning Office is here, Environment is here with Local Government and Town Council and I expect that whatever complains that now must come in should be less compared to previous years."

Minister Kumar visited projects within Savusavu and Labasa Towns and told employees that they can only reduce public complains by working together.

During a special talanoa session, Minister Kumar said he was ready to hear any grievance.

“I wanted to personally meet the workers not only for Labasa but also Savusavu, that’s why it’s only a short visit to freely talk to them, and to listen to the grievances as well,” he said.

“Because come 2015 we want to start everything fresh, if there is any grievance, if there are any pending issues, I want to resolve it here, so in 2015 everything should start with fresh mind and new ideas”.

Minister Kumar thanked his Northern Office for their service to the people in the division and urged them to take Labasa and Savusavu to another level.
