LTA work must reflect Peoples Charter

24/09/2010

The Land Transport Authority will limit the number of permits issued to operators to reflect a fair distribution of wealth as enshrined under the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.

LTA chief executive officer, Naisa Tuinaceva said the authority wants to develop and have a support system and this means that operators applying for four permits would only receive two.

“Some taxi operators have 20 – 30 permits – nothing is stopping you under the law to apply for a certain number as long as you legally qualify but under the fair distribution of wealth everyone will now get a fair share of the cake,” Mr Tuinaceva said.

“We will look at the needs of people in the rural areas so that we can help them access facilities in the business centres like markets, health and education.

“In this way LTA plays a positive role in the socio-economic development of the nation.”
