Leadership training a priority for Government

13/03/2011

Permanent Secretaries are currently attending a 5 day Leadership Training workshop at the PSC Centre for Training and Development at Nasese.

The workshop is facilitated by the National Training and Productivity Centre and covers issues ranging from how Leaders can develop organisations that can effectively recognize, relate and assimilate the global shifts in culture, social structures, technology and information.

Speaking at  the opening, Chief Guest and PSC Commissioner, Ms Fusi Vave said today’s Public Service is very different from what it was 10 years ago, highlighting that traditional procedures and processes have become more sophisticated, organized and transnational in nature but the challenges posed by the on-going advances in technology, have been intensifying.

In light of Government’s Reform Agenda, and the important positions Permanent Secretaries hold in considering what is best for Fiji’s Civil Service, Ms Vave said Leadership, is about making discerning decisions for the best way forward in preserving peace and prosperity as well as addressing the intellectual and operational challenges present.

She added Public Servants of the 21st Century will  need to think more globally, taking into account how World events will affect Government’s services and how as Leaders, Permanent Secretaries need to better prepare Government’s agencies to step up in both intensity and nature and to respond  to and ultimately prevent serious negative consequences.

The workshop is coordinated by renowned international speaker, writer and consultant, Mr Jurgen Oschadleus and ends March 16.
