Learning institution de-established

03/06/2010

The Minister for Education, Mr Filipe Bole, has issued a directive for the de-establishment of Freebird Institute in Namaka and closure of its operations in Lautoka.

The institution has until the end of Term 2 to adhere to the directive.

The school is currently located in the same premises as Namaka Public School. This is unacceptable because the safety of school children can be compromised, Mr Bole says.

If the school wishes to continue operations in Fiji it needs to establish its own school and be registered in accordance with existing laws of schools in Fiji.

Freebird Institute caters for mature students. The Ministry of Education encourages the management to build and register a separate institution.

This ruling, according to Mr Bole, applies to any party that intends to set up a similar educational venture in Fiji.
