Lets fight crime - Police

08/07/2010

The Fiji Police Force remains committed to working together with members of the community in their fight against crime.

Regional Operation Officer West, SP Jope Ralulu made the comments during the declaration of Rakiraki as town and the province of Ra as a crime free province on July 1 in Rakiraki.

“The declaration of all Ra as a crime free province is part of the vision of the Fiji Police Force to partner with community in our fight against crime.

“To reduce crime in Fiji, all members of the community need to play have a role to play.

“This includes villagers, civil servants, religious leaders, businessmen, leaders and even children.

“There is saying that goes ‘Rome was not build in a day’, which we believe that this fight will take longer but we have to be persistent in our fight.

“The aim of the Fiji Police Force is to reduce crime to a very minimal level by 2012.

“We appeal to all citizens of Fiji to take ownership of their communities and towns and fight against crime,” SP Ralulu said.

Earlier this year and late last year Nadi, Ba, Sigatoka, Tavua, Lautoka were declared crime free towns.

SP Ralulu is appreciative of the community’s partnership with police in fighting crime in Fiji.

“Earlier this year, a torch was being relayed in the province of Navosa by members of the public in their fight against the cultivation of marijuana.

“This is just an example of successful partnership between the force and the community and we appeal to members of the public to help us in this fight,” SP Ralulu said.
