The Minister for Local Government, Urban Development, Housing and Environment, Col Samuela Saumatua says local municipalities are undergoing a reform process based on achieving better results.
Col Saumatua made these comments during the opening of the Basic Accounting Workshop for municipalities in Labasa.
He said town councillors were part of that reform process.
“The workshop today is a move in a direction that will hopefully enhance your individual as well as your collective outputs. The Ministry of Local Government will also be exploring ways to continue to assist municipalities in capacity building and staff development as it is our intention to see these reforms are all implemented by 2014,” Col Saumatua said.
He added that municipal councils in the Central and Western Divisions would all be an integral part of the changes and reforms undertaken by the Government.
