He had left his lucrative job as a industrial designer to join the US Peace Corp volunteers Fiji mission and spent six weeks with Ajen Singh’s family at Naqio settlement in Rewa.
“I really enjoy living in an Hindustani family for the past 6 weeks.
“I have learnt a bit of Hindi and enjoyed different Hindi diets like roti and curry and I had occasionally accompany the Singh’s family to weddings and ramayan the Hindi religious observant,” Lucas said.
Being a humanist, Lucas found similarities in the Hindi beliefs, especially in the respect for humanity and hardwork.
“During the 6 weeks I managed to visit indigenous Fijian village too, like Waivou and Nukutubu in Rewa I found them very hospitable.
“When I complete my 2 years mission in Fiji, I will pursue further university education in Public Health programme,” he said.
