The Lomaivuna Integrated Agriculture Rehabilitation project is a national achievement in relation to the Millennium Development Goals, the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and Government’s Roadmap to Democracy and Sustainable Socio Economic Development.
The Minister for Local Government, Urban development, Housing and Environment, Colonel Samuela Saumatua made these comments when launching the project in Lomaivuna.
The project he adds will address basic human rights, the right to shelter and the right to eat.
“It is a sustainable agricultural project that generates continuous income to the squatter community to improve their social, cultural, educational, economic well beings, promotes a healthy and prosperous lifestyle, break away from the cycle of poverty, promotes farming or other economically rewarding lifestyle and control squatting in the main centers,” Colonel Saumatua said.
He said the project was an implementation of government programs that targeted at alleviating poverty, growing the economy, agricultural and land reforms and import substitution.
“It has achieved Pillars 6 and 8 of the People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and the Roadmap for Democracy and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development and the target in the ministry’s annual corporate plan 2011,” Colonel Saumatua said.
“It also contributes to Fiji’s international commitment towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.”
