As this school term comes to a close, I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to all our students, teachers, school leaders, parents, guardians , School Management and communities across Fiji. This term has been full of dedication, perseverance, and remarkable achievements.
To our students, you are the hope for our nations future.
To our teachers, you are the key that unlocks our children’s potential and in your hands lies endless possibilities in the nurturing of young minds and the shaping of their characters . Thank you for your perseverance.
There has been numerous progress made in many areas of our education system during this term two of schooling. We note the following:
• Thousands of students completed the LANA assessments to measure literacy and numeracy skills:
- Year 5: 18,397 students
- Year 7: 19,559 students
- Results are being processed to guide teaching and strengthen foundational skills.
• Schools hosted cadet passout ceremonies with over majority of our secondary schools demonstrating teamwork, discipline, and leadership through cadet training .
At this juncture , I wish to thank the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and the Fiji Police Force for the efforts, resources and commitment by your personnel to assist prepare students for cadet. Your immeasurable contributions into the grooming of our children’s characters and mind through cadet training and discipline is highly and deeply appreciated.
For Digital learning, student attendance, and safer, supportive school environments continued to improve, even in areas facing infrastructure challenges.
The MOE continues to acknowledge and thank parents, guardians, and community leaders for your partnership. Learning extends beyond the classroom, and your engagement ensures children have the support they need to progress in their education.
Education is a shared responsibility. Together, we can address challenges including non-communicable diseases, poverty, gender-based violence, HIV, school dropouts, mental health issues, cyberbullying, and teenage pregnancy.
Importantly, we are now confronting the growing threat of drug and substance abuse. These dangers are real and destructive. Now is the time to act and protect our young people. We need to speak with our family members , and our school communities at large about these dangers, especially the vicious cycle of drug use and the negative impacts it brings.
We must protect our schools , our Fiji and our beloved families from drugs as it is closely linked to diseases; HIV, crimes, and destitution.
As students enjoy their holidays, I encourage reflection and rest. The third and final term will be crucial, with external examinations marking important milestones. Remember to uphold discipline, respect, and leadership in school, at home, and in your communities.
I send my best wishes to all schools whose teams will be participating in the the Fiji Secondary School Dean Competition finals and in the soccer, basketball, cricket, hockey, swimming, inter-primary competitions, and Kaji rugby competitions.
I also extend my well wishes to those schools participating in the upcoming Methodist Church Conference.
May God bless our young leaders of tomorrow, and may God bless Fiji.
