The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Honourable Rosy Akbar wishes students, teachers, and all Fijians, a very safe and pleasant Holi.
Holi, like other similar events and festivals that are celebrated in Fiji, is enjoyed by many Fijians around nations, irrespective of ethnic or cultural backgrounds, and is deeply appreciated for its special charms.
This multicultural unity is reflected in Holi celebrations, with the beautiful colours and the sharing of delicious sweets in fellowship, bringing people together as one, while still appreciating what makes us different.
“I’m sure teachers have taken up the opportunity to celebrate Holi in schools, which provides an apt platform for students to learn about each other’s culture and brings unity and peace. Despite the impacts of COVID-19 and the recent disasters, we have shown a high level of resilience and cooperation, which is unique about our people and country”, said Minister Akbar.
The Ministry has allowed Schools that are managed by Hindu Faith Based Organisations to close on Monday next week to observe this festival. Teachers that are teaching in non-Hindu Schools and are celebrating this festival, are requested to make arrangements with their Heads of School.
The Ministry will continue to promote cultural and religious activities in schools to inspire and help build a generation that understands and respects other cultures.
We wish everyone a Happy Holi and remind parents to closely supervise children during festivities.
