The Minister for Education, National Heritage, Culture, Arts and Library Services, Filipe Bole, has expressed his concern with schools that were underperforming in past external examinations.
“All underperforming schools should devise strategies in improving their external exam results in the Fiji Seventh Form Certificate Examination and Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination,” Minister Bole said while addressing teachers at Ratu Navula Secondary Schools this week.
“I am happy to say for the Fiji Seventh Form Certificate Examination 2013, 57 schools were high performing with 80% and over, 76 schools were medium performing with 50-79%. Sadly, 25 schools were under performing below 50%and these schools are on a watch list this year,” the Minister said.
“For the Fiji School Leaving Certificate Examination, the underperforming schools have decreased from 45 to 35 last year,” added Ambassador Bole.
“Government has made available free education for the first time in Fiji’s budget history therefore, underperforming schools should make every effort in improving their results with the many teaching resources and qualified teachers posted to respective schools in schools,” said Ambassador Bole.
“I am appealing to all principals, teachers, parents and students to live up to the expectation of better performance in external exams,” added Ambassador Bole.
“The state has made tertiary education affordable with the National Toppers Scholarship and Tertiary Education Loan Scheme. To qualify students must meet the requirements by achieving a quality pass in the Fiji Seventh Form Examination,” concluded Ambassador Bole.
