The newly appointed Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Charan Jeath Singh, officially commenced his duties following the Cabinet reshuffle late last year.
Minister Singh now holds the portfolios of Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, and Public Enterprises.
As part of his first official engagement, Minister Singh met with the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ms. Laisa Bolalevu, and the Ministry’s senior management team. During the meeting, the Acting Permanent Secretary provided a comprehensive overview of the Ministry’s operations, objectives, and the current performance of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) under its purview.
Minister Singh stated that his appointment reflects the Prime Minister’s confidence in his business acumen and his mandate to transform government-owned enterprises into profitable and sustainable entities.
“I am here, appointed by the Prime Minister, to turn around government-owned enterprises into profitable organisations. The Government has been supporting these companies for many years, and my role is to ensure they become financially sustainable while delivering tangible benefits to communities and businesses across Fiji,” Minister Singh said.
He emphasised that improving the performance of State-Owned Enterprises will contribute to national economic growth, employment opportunities, and improved service delivery.
Minister Singh also acknowledged the efforts of the Acting Permanent Secretary and recognised the contributions of the former Minister in the portfolio. He expressed his commitment to working closely with the Ministry, senior management, and the boards of various Government Enterprises to achieve the Ministry’s objectives.
