Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Rosy Sofia Akbar commissioned a new block of classroom at AD Patel College in Ba this morning.
Representing an investment of over $1 million, it replaces an old structure destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016, and comes with an outfit of sophisticated teaching aides and resources.
"It is the vision of the Fijian Government to have classrooms that are conducive to learning," Minister Akbar reiterated.
The project amounts to over $1 million and part of the Cyclone Winston Rehabilitation Fund, which works to rebuild schools and homes affected by TC Winston throughout the country.
"While rebuilding, we have found that many buildings had very weak structures and without engineer's certificates. So, we are ensuring that new buildings can withstand Category 5 cyclones,” Minister Akbar said.
She commended the advanced teaching facilities that come with the new Year 12 and 13 classrooms, noting that it would inspire and motivate students.
The Minister also urged students, teachers and parents to work together in planning the career aspirations of students as they progressed from Year 11, and highlighted the necessity of studying subjects that would be relevant to the higher education and planned professions of school students.
