The Minister for Local Government, Premila Kumar, opened the LED Savusavu Hot Spring Project in the Northern tourist town of Savusavu today (02.08.22).
Minister Kumar said residents have utilised the hot springs to prepare their food for decades and this development creates an opportunity for Fijians to prepare dishes on site for commercial purposes.
She said the Nakama hot springs has served as an anchor attraction for both local and international visitors, and it was the responsibility of both Government and citizens to maintain it.
Minister Kumar said the project was a result of the ongoing partnership between the Ministry of Local Government, Commonwealth Local Government Forum (CLGF), Savusavu Town Council and other stakeholders.
The total cost of the project was $75,000, $60,000 of which was provided by the CLGF under their Local Government Development (LED) programme.
