Children flocked to Albert Park this morning after marching through the city of Suva for the official opening of the KIDSGAMES 2012.
The march through town was led by the Fiji Police Band where the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Viliame Naupoto officially opened the event.
“Fiji is fortunate to be part of 150 countries in the world where KIDSGAMES happens,” Minister Naupoto said.
KIDSGAMES has become a popular international event and this is the third organised in Fiji after its introduction in 2004.
“I want to thank you children for choosing to be part of this event as the programme would provide both physical and spiritual benefits”.
Mr Naupoto stressed the importance of having organised sports for children as it can effectively prepare them for active and healthy lifestyles as adults.
Minister Naupoto highlighted that the integration of games and bible lessons will help these children to learn important values that are deteriorating from our young people today.
KIDSGAMES FIJI 2012 will continue over the next four days where children will participate in variety of activities and will wrap up with a closing ceremony at Albert Park on 04 May 2012.
